listed procedures in order to allow for proper police investigation of the complaint:
1. Contact any of the tree credit reporting bureaus to request a copy of your credit
report. Per Federal Law all persons are entitled to one free credit report per year and to
request your report you may contact the tree credit bureaus Equifax, Experian and Trans
Union at the following too free number 8770322082028. Or you may go online to
www.Annualcreditreport.com
2. Once you receive your report check it carefully and look for any accounts or
entries which you may feel are inaccurate and note such inaccuracies.
3. If you are reporting any credit cards, debit cards, department store cards,
checking accounts or other bank accounts of being opened fraudulently in your name, you
need to contact each of those companies separately and request copies of appropriate
documents pertaining to such account opened in your name.
Be advised that many credit card companies and banks will not release your account
information to law enforcement unless under subpoena. You have the ability to obtain that
information more readily and should provide copies of all pertinent documents to the polce
when filing your complaint. Also, many credit card companies and banks often do not wish to
prosecute for crimes they do not consider serious often $10,000.00 or more) and unlike
other investigations, victims of identity theft need to take active participation in the
police investigation. Identity theft victims should also be aware that such investigations
often proceed at a slow pace due to many factors outside of police control.
When you have inaccurate information on your credit report that you have found after you
receive your free credit report from annualcreditreport, you should dispute with Equifax,
Experian and Tran union directly
