Default Vehicle mileage deduction question - 05-31-2008

Hi,

For business use of a personal vehicle, the 2006 IRS rate is 44.5cents per mile. Last year, the IRS allowed 48.5cents, and for 2008 it's 50.5cents per mile.

The question-- is there a reason that a company would choose not to pass along the full reimbursement? I guess I can think of administrative expense taking a few cents, but that just doesn't seem right. I'm assuming that the company's accounting staff is well aware of how much they can deduct, and taking the maximum deduction.

Yes, many companies will not give you the full mileage reimbursements as the IRS allows for deductions. Why, to save money of course.

That just really does not seem right. If you are the one using the fuel and it is your vehicle how could they not pass that onto you?

You want to deduct 12,000 miles but you know that you have to have business and put this on Schedule C any business and remember your car plate should be commercial.. not individual...
