Is a Roth IRA a good idea?

I have been thinking, which I probably do too much of.

Would it be a good idea to retire early, say at age 55, then take the retirement checks and put them in a Roth IRA while working on a part time basis?

of course it is very good idea to saving for retirement, even if you are in your 55 years of age, it never too late saving for retirement, I father currently is 88 and still working because he can't retire because he don't save enough for retirement!
