How many places do you generally look at/to for more information before making big investments or buying insurance?

When I bought a car. I looked at about 10 places. I took about 2 weeks to decide on the car and dealer.
I work for an insurance agency so....I know what a good deal is there.

Well, yeah, I too bought the car after thinking for 2 weeks. But, It was my home which took me longer to decide whether to buy or not. Finally I bought it after 2 months. How many places you check out? It depends on the thing you want to purchase.

Well I am very cautious before making any expenditure on anything so investement should also be. In such situation I am look for who is big player and what they are offering ... choose three from them and accordingly rank them and than I compare with the relevant factor ... this is aplicable for all expenses and investment only factors changed ...

Generally I research a lot before investing or purchasing Insurance. I look at the fundamentals of the company before investing in Stocks. I look at the Insurance premium charges of the various providers before deciding on the product.

I check the balance sheets of companies, study their 52 week performance before investing in them.
For insurance, i check out the policies, what all is being covered, what conditions and premium i have to pay.

excellent points by lokesh. Its necessary to check the balance sheets and recent fortunes of a company. In the case of insurance, its important to go through their claims conditions and terms because it is inevitably a tricky clause..

One more thing to look for before investing big in:
1. Stock- The companies profits to earning ratio.
2. Real estate (land)- Future prospects and surronding neighbourhood.
3. insurance- penalty to pay if you aren't able to fill the premium on time!
