Do you lend money when you non-earning-friend ask? Generally I dont because I give to them who can return me on time.

The best way to make an enemy of a friend is to loan them money. It can cause all sorts of problems. But, if the friend is very close to you and you want to help them out then the best thing to do is to write all the terms out. How much they owe, how much will they pay back each week or month, how long to they expect to pay you back, and anything else you can think of.

I so agree with you skatss! I'll go a step further, don't loan money to family if you can keep from it. Family is the worst in the world to take advantage of you. A lot of my family members think "Well, it's just them, so it doesn't matter if I pay it back or not." I have loaned to family and gotten burned.

Advice that I have heard on this subject is, "don't lend anyone anything you wouldn't be willing to give them anyways." If I'm not willing to GIVE someone the money, then I won't lend it to them.

I've lent money to friends and let them set up a time frame in which to pay me back. But it's always been with that advice in mind. Never lend anything you wouldn't have given them anyways. That way you won't be dissappointed. I never worried about it.

Unfortunately, in one circumstance, I think it did cost me a friendship. But that was not my doing (I don't think). After loaning her the money, she kept getting bent out of shape over giving it back to me, and every time she saw me she'd say something about it, even though I never asked for it. I guess she felt guilty because of the hard times, etc. I tried to tell her to just focus on getting back on her feet and when she could give it back, then that would be great, but don't worry about it, because I wasn't hurting for it. But still, she seemed to let it get in the way of everything. She sent me a letter once with a money order for the amount. I saw her again among some other friends and she ignored me for the most part, even though I thought we had been really good friends. I don't know what I did other than lend her a small amount of money when she was in need, and not once did I ever ask for it back or act like it was a big deal or anything.

So, I don't know. I don't loan money out I wouldn't give anyways, because chances are you're not going to see it again anyways. But, that case, I don't know what to make of it. Neither a borrower nor lender be. I dunno.

Default I never borrow money - 06-26-2008

I never borrow money as I don't trust people that they will give me back those money with interest rates. bank is for lending not me. If a person ask me if I can lend him a certain amount of dollars I always say if you will give me back with interest rates I will lend you ok I will.. so go ahead and grab a loan in bank is the same interest rates

Me too... As you said, Even I lend money to the guy who has the capability to return that money back.
I will only lend my money to some of my good friends and I had done that many times. However, not many returned, but, I don't actually care even if they don't return as I don't lend a large amount!

Well, thats my point, don't loan money to people you wouldn't mind not getting back. So it stays small and manageable.

But, I like S's post above, just don't loan money period. :-) Safest that way.
