Default Gift Cards - 06-11-2008

Does anyone use gift cards. The grocery store in our area will double the amount you put on a gift card as they hope this will bring them added business. Do you use or buy gift cards with these incentives.

I don't know many places that offer those incentives.Though I think it's a great idea especially for the grocery store since you can use them yourself.I do know many stores are having issues with them now do to the economy.Certain stores are making you spend double the amount before allowing you to redeem them.I think that is horrible. It's not fair to the person who was offered the gift card as a gift.I also would be careful because of hidden fees for not using them within a certain amount of time and due to the uncertain economy..I wouldn't hold on to gift cards that dont expire as long as you normally would in case the bussiness would file for bankruptcy.

Our local grocery store does a thing where, if you spend so much on at their store in a month, you get 10 cents off of four gasoline purchases the next month (the store has a gas station). The catch is, you have to spend off of a gift card. For 10 cents off a gallon, we spend there every month!

gift cards are a win-win situation for both the parties. one has to spend anyways on the products to be purchased! and getting gift cards on them is like a added bonus! The customer benefits as well as the business as the gift card will bring in more spending from us (the customers), and we will get some discount!

That sounds like a great idea. I'd definitely check that out if a similar deal was available in my area.

Otherwise, I think you sometimes have to be aware if there's a time limit on the cards, right?

Default double tax deduction on gift card! - 06-28-2008

there is a lot of funny story about credit card and gift card, if you give somebody a gift card you have a receipt that pretty much saying you have purchase debit card, if someone buy thing on debit card they also carry a receipt so total merchandise you purchase both you plus someone is double, if you offer gift card to someone , then someone can give you his or her store receipt and you can file for deduction.. double tax deduction
